Peter began his career in the automobile industry as the North Georgia Field Representative for the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association before moving to Oklahoma City and assuming the role of President of the Metropolitan Auto Dealers Association (M.A.D.A.) in 1999. 

In January 2022, Peter was named President of OADA. In addition to lobbying on behalf of the franchised new automobile dealers, he is also the President of the Car Dealers Care Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity that assists dealership employees who have experienced an extreme hardship.

He also serves as President of the Tulsa Automobile Dealers Association. Peter produces the Oklahoma City Auto Show, Tulsa Auto Show and the Auto Show at the Oklahoma State Fair.

Peter is the father to five children: Lehany, Peter Jr., Cheatham III, Luke and Merryn and is a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond.
